How to read your chart

A natal chart is the sky at your first breath, held still. It is not a verdict and not a fortune. It is a seed: everything you could become, planted at the moment you arrived. The wheel above places every planet in its sign and house, and the reading is the slow work of growing into it.

Start with the big three. Your Sun is your core, the thing you are here to become. Your Moon is your inner life, what you need and what settles you. Your rising sign, the Ascendant, is how you meet the world, the door people come through first. They are read together, as one voice in three registers, never as a list.

This chart uses whole sign houses, where your rising sign becomes the entire first house and each sign after it becomes the next. It is the oldest house system and, to our eye, the clearest, older and cleaner than the Placidus method most apps reach for by default. The twelve houses are the twelve rooms of a life: body, worth, mind, home, pleasure, work, and on around the wheel.

The lines across the center are the aspects, the conversations between planets, the angles at which they help or challenge one another. The tight ones, small in orb, are the loudest voices in the chart. And a note worth saying plainly: your rising sign and your houses need an accurate birth time. Without one you still get a true chart of planets in signs, but not the architecture of the houses. If you know your time, use it. It is the difference between a list of placements and a whole design.

Common questions

What is a natal chart?

A natal chart is the sky at the exact moment and place you were born, drawn as a wheel. It maps where every planet sat by sign and house. It is a map of placements to read and grow into, not a fortune.

What are whole sign houses?

In the whole sign system your rising sign becomes the entire first house, and each sign after it becomes the next house in order. It is the oldest house system and the one this chart uses, cleaner than the Placidus method most apps default to.

What if I do not know my birth time?

You still get a true chart of your planets in their signs. What you cannot get without an accurate time is your rising sign and houses, which move too fast to guess. Leave the time blank for an honest untimed chart rather than a wrong one.

What is the difference between Sun, Moon, and rising?

Your Sun is your core, what you are becoming. Your Moon is your inner life, what you need and what soothes you. Your rising sign is how you meet the world, the door people come through first. The three are read together, not alone.

How is this calculated?

Positions are computed with the Swiss Ephemeris, the same engine professional astrologers use, in whole-sign houses.

The wheel is free. The reading is the craft.

The Twelve Rooms writes deep, human-written natal readings from this exact math: every claim hangs on a degree you can see. The whole chart, read together.
